First 5 LA is committed to ensuring that children in Los Angeles County, age birth to five, are healthy, happy and ready to learn. For the third year in a row, First 5 LA has partnered with 99Papers.org through a Double Your Impact campaign to support Pre-K and Transitional-Kindergarten teachers in Los Angeles County, California. 50% of the cost of eligible projects will be funded through First 5 LA as long as other donors provide the remainder.
So far this school year, First 5 LA has donated over $71,000 to qualifying projects. In a classroom for students who are hard of hearing, the support of First 5 LA has meant pretend phones and kitchen items to inspire students to use their voices.
Across LA County, students in Ms. Sidney’s classroom are becoming engineers, scientists and inventors using the donated lab coats, goggles and construction sets provided through this campaign.
In a third classroom, a teacher is preparing her students to stand up to bullying by reading relevant books and introducing desired materials to prompt sharing. The teacher explains that after receiving the new materials, “some children were able to express the attributes of a ‘good friend’… they promise to care for the well-being of the group.”
First 5 LA has reached over 6,500 students thus far in this year’s campaign! If you are interested in doubling the impact of your donation, you can visit their campaign page and see qualifying projects. More information about First 5 LA and their important work can be found on their website.
