Last Saturday, at Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, California, high school students from all over the Bay Area experienced the gift of giving by choosing projects to support on 99Papers.org. The Gift of Hope workshop began with a presentation about Philanthropy 2.0 by the author of the popular blog,. Next, we heard inspirational stories from , a group of young community activists who share their messages through art, writing, music, photography and video.
After learning that they too could play an important role in helping the community, students from Notre Dame High School, Woodside Priory, Tenderloin Children’s Playground, the Boys and Girls Club, the Indochinese Housing Development Center and the Vietnamese Youth Development Center worked together to search the 99Papers.org website and find projects that spoke to their hearts. Professors and students from Notre Dame de Namur University, including Bonner Student Leaders, Biz Comm students and members of Delta Epsilon Sigma were on hand to help facilitate the day of learning and giving.
The high school students presented their project choices, debated about which projects were most compelling and ultimately helped to bring 18 Bay Area projects to life! Thanks to support from the Pierre and Pamela Omidyar Donor Advised Fund and the Kimball Foundation, these enthusiastic and dedicated students made dreams come true for many classrooms – fromto to to teach students about the world around them. Endless thanks to everyone who participated and made this amazing day possible!
